Energy Management

Energy markets have become smarter yet more complex over the past few years. It wasn't very long ago that most businesses would have a simple manually read import meter, with a basic tariff, for the single supply that fed their premises.

Now, more and more businesses have different types of metering with many different tariffs or contracts available. They may also have to take into account some form of on site generation and how it affects their overall supply. This smarter grid is necessary for a changing infrastructure and it does bring many advantages with it. However it must be managed correctly in order to fully realise these benefits.

It’s no longer about simple procurement, it’s about managing your supply and treating it as an asset, not just an overhead.

Thats why we like to approach energy in a different way. We help our clients by fully understanding their present and where possible their future energy requirements. Then putting processes in place to:

  • Be more creative with your buying strategy

  • look for ways to reduce or alter your usage

  • Check historic billing information for errors

  • Make better use of any renewable resources you already have installed

  • Use the industry complexity to your advantage

  • Consider new or alternative energy supplies

We can help you manage your energy, develop your own bespoke strategy and keep it under constant review as markets develop and change.

How might we use Energy Management to help your business?

It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data

With the roll out of the Smart Meter programme, the introduction of P272 legislation plus existing Half Hourly (HH) supplies, more and more end users have metering installed that is capable of generating vast volumes of data.

Data that we can collect and analyse.

Once this data has been analysed we can create in-depth information about how individual sites consume energy. This information will provide you with many useful insights into your energy use and will form the basis of your future energy strategy.

Our energy management approach is a systematic and continuous effort to improve energy efficiency within an organisation. It can take many forms and involve all types of interactions with energy, from procurement and purchasing strategies to technological improvements and behavioural changes.

To begin with it can be broken down into three essential steps:

Evaluate

Once again its all about the data! Firstly we will establish and agree a baseload using some historic data. Things will usually vary year to year, especially within agri-businesses. So the more data we have access to, the more accurate we can be with our future plans.

Identify

Once we have agreed a baseload for your site, we can create a full site report that will look for potential savings. we can then consider such issues as preventing wastage, simple behavioural change, load shifting or perhaps some onsite generation.

Realise

Then we present our findings in a report and help you agree a way forward that suits your individual business. Of course the hard work isn’t necessarily over at this point, if you do opt to change the way you consume or obtain your energy we will be there to verify the savings.
