The Different Types of Renewable Power
The Different Types of Renewable Power
Everyone has heard of solar, or Solar Photovoltaic Technology ( SPV for short ) and the majority of clients are aware of wind power but what other options are there for renwable energy across the UK?
Hydro , Tidal , Geothermal and Biomass are just some of the more unknown options.
So what are the pros and cons of each energy type?
Keep up to date with our blog as we look at each technology in more detail over the next few weeks.
Not one size fits all. Only with a mix of technologies can we achieve our future net zero across the country, and what works for your site - for example a warehouse roof covered in solar panels - won’t work for another - if your building sizes are small and land is covered in trees causing lots of shade - roof or ground solar is unlikely to be affective
If you have a technology you’d like to know about first let us know by emailing cheryl@conserveenergy.net
What is a MOP?
What is a MOP?
Many of our clients havent heard of Meter Operator Contracts ( MOPs ) so what is a MOP and why do you need one?
Depending on your site and meter type useage mandatory requirements state you must have a MOP, as well as a Data Collection/Data Aggregation (DC/DA) provider. Payment for these services forms part of the non-commodity costs on your standard energy invoice. Many people don’t even realise these costs are there or understand what they are for.
The role of a MOP is to maintain your electricity meter and to ensure communications between the meter and all suppliers.
Whilst the cost of a MOP will vary from site to site it is almost always better to go directly to a specialist supplier than through your energy provider, not only financally but in terms of dealing with faults, data and new meter installations. These providers are specialist for a reason!
If you are not sure if you have a MOP in place or what services you are recieving ( or missing ) get in touch and we can happily talk you through your options with no obligations
The power of the sun - Off Grid Living
The power of the sun - Off Grid Living
My interest in renewables started some years ago and I have now been living off grid for over 6 years.
So what does that mean and how does it affect my thinking?
For me its not always about having enough solar panels and batterys to be able to run every piece of electrical equipment 24 hours a day - in fact its quite the opposite.
Living small scale and off grid has really made me think about the power I use and when I use it. When the suns out I prioritize my usage usually starting with my laptop! I always know whats charged and what needs charging - on a dull cloudy day I am afraid the hoovering just doesn’t get done. ( There are some great advantages )
Of course living off grid is very differnet to running a business off grid but some principles are the same - looking closely at what power you use and when can make a significant impact to your bank balance
When should I renew my contracts?
One question we often get asked is “How soon should I look to secure my next import or export contracts?”
Depending on the supplier we can secure pricing upto 9 months ahead and contracts can range from 6 months, three, five or even ten years. We follow the market trends all day every day, look at future markets and geopolitical influences to make sure that we pick the right time to find the best supplier for your business. Although price is a strong influencer many things have to be taken into consideration when renewing contracts. Site changes, future plans, budget certainity and risk levels all come into play along when looking at Green energy and even Green Gas.
If your not sure where to start just get in touch - we can talk you through your potential options and will find you the best fit for your business
